Disassembly Lines

The sheer number of hogs speeding through a slaughterhouse production line on any given day is chilling. Nearly 330,000 hogs go to their deaths in the United States every day, having been reduced to mere production units living in the unspeakable conditions of concentration and confinement. Workers and inspectors are often hard-pressed to keep up with the relentless pace of all the death and disassembly. It can be a brutal end for a hog, but along the way, the realities of our food production systems become a distant blur to the average consumer.
